Practice Patience Perseverance Will Move You Rapidly Forward
When you are creating a sustainable business you realize that it will not happen overnight.
Now, as you know there are many attributes that an entrepreneur will need to acquire. Here are three very important ones.
Practice is one of those things that must become a part of your daily method of operation (DMO). Think of an athlete and the pain, repetition and persistence that they have to endure in order to reach the high levels that they wish to attain. They keep going when most people would just whine and give up.
They keep practising and increasing the workload until they perfect their performance. Consider a professional soldier like someone in the SAS who spend 95% of their time practising drills and procedures, over and over again, until they become second nature.
Then when the pressure is on they just slot into that particular course of action as if they have been doing it all of their lives. In fact they may only use this technique or drill once, but they have practised it so many times that it becomes a way of life. So practising is the key to professionalism. Keep practising guys. Remember practice patience perseverance.
If everyone practised patience the world would be a much better place, but unfortunately most people (especially drivers) are simply not bothered to work on being patient.
One of the ways that have assisted me to become more patient (I still have a long way to go) is reading a good mixture of books.
I ususally read a combination of action stories and personal development books. I just love the balance between the two subjects. By making an effort to read it appears to help me be more relaxed and this spills over into other areas of my life includiing driving. (Yes I have spent quite a bit of time biting the steering wheel in frustration, enough said)
The other thing that I do is listen to high quality personal development audio CDs and these also allow me to just chill out when I am driving. But whatever you take part in I think learning patience is a key skill to adopt.
Now because I mention patience, I do not mean that momentum will not be a key to your success. Patience will allow you to gain momentum and be more flexible and cool about everything.
Remember practice patience perseverance.
Then the last attribute is perseverance or persistence, the art of just keeping going and reaching your destination, no matter what happens on the journey.
So perseverance, being tenacious and single minded, getting to the task completed whatever the conditions. I know that there are many hundreds of great examples of perseverance that I could research and add to this article, but for me and hopefully you, maybe there is something you have done in the past that would fall under this heading. I know for me it was training for the marathon in 1985 to 1986.
I read a book called The Complete Distance Runner by Bruce Tulloh and in this book there were a series of training programmes. I adopted one specific program, which I stuck to like glue and completed at least 95% of it, over those two years. (In 1969, Bruce Tulloh ran 2876 miles across America from Los Angeles to New York City in 64 days.)
I remember there were times when I just didn’t want to go out training, because of long hours at work or I was in pain from a previous run the day before, but I persisted and I am so glad I did, because the benefits I received were tremendous. I can honestly state that perseverance is something I am used to and love, but only because I know the average person will not put up with the hardships that go along with it.
I hope you realise that whatever you decide to take part in will most definitely take these major skill sets. It takes practice, patience and perseverance to be a winner, so whe are you going to start on this fascinating journey?
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” Thomas A. Edison
